Welcome to Social Connective Music Making and Therapy (SCMMT), Dr. Josie Nugent's practice dedicated to providing services in music therapy and community music projects to empower you to reach your potential.

How can Music empower us?

Music is a powerful connecting tool that is all around us. It forms part of our identity, culture and heritage. Its use as a healing force dates back to ancient times. Illness, disability or injury does not affect our ability to engage with the core elements of rhythm, sounds and timbre which activate impulses from the brain that affect us both physiologically and emotionally.

We can therefore tap into new ways of being, of communicating and expressing our emotional selves through creative music making that can empower a person to advance once again in their community.

Music Therapy

SCMMT provides a professional music therapy service to people of all ages, offering expertise in the fields of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Learning Difficulties, Adult Group Therapy, Dementia and Traumatic Brain Injuries, Mental Health and Palliative Care.

I am a qualified music therapist, registered with the Health & Care Professions Council, and the British Association for Music Therapy. I am dedicated to providing measurable and tangible outcomes to enhance the social, psychological and emotional well being of all my clients.

Community Music

SCMMT also works in cross-community projects in collaboration with organisations including Cultúrlann Uí Chanáin and Musicians without Borders. These projects reconnect divided communities by inspiring and empowering people through music and performance.
